TRANSILVANIAThe first wine region is Transylvania, situated in centre of northern half of Romania most of the territory being represented by a wide plateau surrounded from all sides by the Carpathian mountains. Transylvania's vineyards produce high-quality white-wines, combining perfectly the local-traditional methods with new technology, mostly German. The wines produced here are noble and also original, with nuances of taste and smell you can't find anywhere else in the world. Sparkling wines are produced in viticulture centres: Jidvei, Blaj, Alba Iulia, Târnăveni, Sebeș, Aiud. The grapes growing here are both old native grapes and new imported grapes. The most important are: Fetească Albă, Fetească Regală, Muscat Ottonel, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pink Traminer, Italian Riesling, Neuburger, Rhin Riesling, Iordana. VILLA VINEA VINEYARDVilla Vinea winery is a new construction with an architecture reminiscent of the old towers in the villages of Transylvania. Under the ground are the stainless steel tanks, in which the must ferments at a controlled temperature, which then turns into wine. The story of the wine, in this three-level gravitational winery, starts from its "roof" where the grapes fall into a peeler, then end up in a pneumatic press. From the carefully pressed grapes, the must reaches. the tanks and begins its metamorphosis under the careful observation of the head of the winery.
CRIŞANA AND MARAMUREŞCrişana is situated in west of Romanian at the Hungarian border, while Maramureş is in north-east. Some of the main vineyards are: Miniș-Măderat, Diosig, Dealurile Silvaniei, Valea lui Mihai. Crişana area provides excellent red wines (Cadarcă, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot) while Maramureş produces acidic white wines excellent for brandy. The grapes growing here are both old native grapes and new imported grapes. The most important are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cadarcă, Merlot, Italian Riesling, Burgund Mare, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, Fetească Regală, Furmint, Furmint de Miniș, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon, Pink Traminer, Mustoasă de Măderat, Fetească Albă. FORT SILVAN Fort Silvan winery is located in Camăr, Sălaj County – area with tradition in viticulture and winemaking. Grape varieties: Fetească Regală, Italian Riesling, Muscat Ottonel, Traminer, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Fetească Neagră, Cadarca. The owner, Szoboszlai Attila, has switched from being a physics professor to being the mayor of Camăr. Afterwards, since 2006, he focused on agriculture as he created and invested in the biggest plantation of decorative pine trees in Romania. The wine is cultivated at the edge of the forest, where the new winery was built of stone in 2015, with a unique architecture, reminiscent of a medieval fortress. The winery, with 25 m sides is U-shaped and provides a tasting room on the rooftop. For enotourists, the owner built a hostel with 10 rooms, two suites, a conference hall, a Ballroom and a wine cellar. Grape varieties: Fetească Regală, Italian Riesling, Muscat Ottonel, Traminer, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Fetească Neagră, Cadarcă. CARASTELECCarastelec Winery is the first investment in Romania aimed at producing mostly sparkling and semi-sparkling wines. It is located in Crișana Region, which is one of the oldest wine producing regions in Transylvania, close to Măgura Şimleului Mountain which is a crystalline island in North West Transylvania. The grapes varieties: Italian Riesling, Pinot Noir, Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, Chardonnay. Inside the Institute there is the only Vineyard and Wine Museum from the department – where are exposed the tools used for the vineyard’s culture and for the wine process from antiquity until modern period. This Institute detains vine plantations, experimental parcels, labs, the oldest wine collection from this part of Romania, as well as abilities of producing and keeping the wine.
